Just need to look at the comics page to see we are being robbed in the government’s 700 billion bailout…

Posted by MJ on September 25, 2008

President George Bush last night in a televised plea to the American people reinforced Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson’s stance that Congress needs to pass the 700 billion government bailout proposal right now. No need to worry about oversight, the CEO golden parachutes from the companies who receive the government money, or even the details of the plan itself. The word is give us the money first and worry about all that later (maybe). Yes, the situation is real but I keep hearing that if we don’t act right this second we will lose jobs, slip into a recession, and have general market chaos. Hello!? – This has been happening for a while now!

Funny, just last week I posted that John McCain is clueless about our wrecked economy and how the markets are taking a dump and actually had number of people commenting trying to tell me the economy is just fine and/or rebounding. Some people prefer to just keep their heads in the sand I guess…

The political cartoonists know we are in a mess and that the government will rob us to bailout the greedy bastards who caused this problem. I posted couple of the better comics on the subject so check them out and then vote in my government bailout poll in the upper left corner of this page.

If any readers know any other good political cartoons about the bailout please pass them along with a link.

First, Keith Tucker of What Now?!! Cartoons weights in with a comic and animated cartoon video…

Tom Tomorrow’s This Modern World which I have featured before gets in the act…

Lastly, where would we be without Pulitzer Prize winning political cartoonist Tom Toles of the Washington Post speaking his mind…

Robbed is the best word to describe this bailout. While banks are given more credit at low interest rates, everyone else who has credit are now classified bad risks and the interest rates on their credit cards are at the maximum. I am my own worst enemy because I used the credit cards. But you don’t see me asking the government to bail me out. How about this. We will lend the banks 700 billion if everyone’s credit cards are wiped out clean. Meaning, we all start from scratch. Then I can borrow again and spend more money to keep the economy going. Isn’t that what these banks are going to be doing. The government is buying worthless debt and possibly in the future, it might be paid back unless we go into a depression and then no one except the rich are immune. I don’t want to erase the debt on my house or the car I am driving but if they forgive all my credit cards, then I will let them borrow from my future. I still have to work 20 years to get to SSI and by then any 401K I have is worthless or at least lower than what everyone says it is including the SSI.

Our country is facing the worst economic disaster since the great depression.
    Even Obama says so.
It’s the responsibility of the Senate to come up with an answer.
The answer has to be decided in a few days.
The answer will dramatically affect Americans for generations to come.
McCain, Obama, and Binden are all U.S. Senators.
Throughout the campaign, Obama has turned down the chance for 10 townhall debates.
… and now, Obama refuses McCain’s request that they both postpone the debate to work
on the economic recovery package … and Obama declines, in order to campaign???
I think the facts speak for themselves …

You don’t resolve debt by going more into debt. Right now the White House has realitors ready to post that foreclosure sign on the lawn and will be an open invitation to foreign countries to come in an take over. Like they say in Texas Mr. Bush, it is time to cowboy up.

First of all, get your facts straight. Obama turned down the town hall meetings because they were a trap. The audience was hand picked and vetted, Obama would not have had friendly face in the crowd. If Obama DID accept, I’d seriously doubt his intelligence. Another cheap trick attempted by McCain’s camp. It seems like lately that’s all he can bring to the table — cheap tricks.

Secondly, there is NO reason whatsoever that they cannot hold an hour long debate during this financial crisis. It’s more important NOW more than ever that the American people get to hear them speak out about what’s going on. Whomever is voted the next president will have a heaping pile of crap on their plate to sort out. I want to hear how they are planning on doing it now…NOT later!

Thirdly, News just broke that Congress has bailout plan, (cnn.com) so I’d love to hear what McCain’s new excuse not to come to the debate will be. Do you really think this makes him look good? They won’t let Palin say boo to a single reporter and now McCain is trying to dodge a critical debate. You can run McCain–but you can’t hide!

You make a good point on why not a bailout for the Amercian consumer. We have been told to spend and to spend more and handed free money by easy credit and now many Americans are in trouble. At the very least we need banking and credit card interest and fee reform. Once I had automatic car payment come out and didn’t realize my two direct deposit paychecks would be a day later so was $50 overdrawn. I also withdrew $20 dollars (ATM didn’t complain) and charged $5 for snacks at a store that day. I ended up being charged $96 in fees because the bank floated me like $75 dollars for literally 12 hours. Bank would do nothing for me (I just called and never wrote them) and I had last overdrew my account 10 years ago. Loan sharks can’t get away with operating like that.

    @Gina

“The answer has to be decided in a few days.”

Do we really need to decide in a few days? I am not buying into the scare tactics of the Bush administration who originally wanted a blank check and no questions. We can take some time and really think this over before we consider a 700 billion dollar bailout.

McCain wanted to move the debate to the date when Joe Biden and Sarah Palin were to debate. Ms. Palin has looked clueless in her to softball TV interviews and I think they are scared Sarah would be smacked senseless in a debate with Biden. The McCain campaign is running scared right now with Obama surging in the polls.

I admit didn’t understand the comic you linked to and maybe because it appears to be a UK political comic. I did like this one from the site…

  7. Great to see my art as a topic of discussion, I’m just expressing my own anguish at the direction our country has been taken these past 27 years, it’s a small wonder there is a gigantic mess for Obama to clean up after these greedy bastards have brought us back to the time of the robber barons and to the depression that un regulated greed takes us. Thanks to all the assholes that voted republician all these years, we now have to pick up the pieces. Liberal Cartoonists are having a hard time in this Corporate controlled media world, so any help you can toss our way, it is appreciated
    Cheers

Thanks for the comment and your stuff was new to me when I wrote this post. I fixed your link to your website in your comment. I hope to get the blogging bug again since things are hardly going to be magically better just because George is out of office.
